Here’s our eight-year journey from our designer’s mecha obsession to defining the future of mecha-aesthetics, with a look at what’s coming next.
8 Years of GravaStar: From Sci-Fi Vision to Defining the Future of Mecha-Aesthetics
Eight years ago, the GravaStar products you know and love were just a sketch on our founder, Yong’s desk. It started with a Bluetooth speaker shaped like something out of a sci-fi film, drawn up by a designer who’d spent a decade making other people’s products. It was finally time to make something of his own.
Today, that sketch has turned into an instantly recognizable product ecosystem shipping to over 30 countries in a category of design that didn’t even exist before GravaStar. Here’s a recap of the eight-year journey that brought that design to life.
The Sketch That Started a Universe
Back in 2018, GravaStar founder Yong was a designer with over ten years of client work behind him. But what he actually wanted to design – speakers shaped like mecha hardware, audio devices looking like they’d survived an orbital incident – lived in his own private designs for years..
Eventually, he put one of those sketches on Indiegogo to see if there’d be any interest. To his surprise, thousands of strangers backed it, and the Mars Bluetooth speaker became the first product in what would later become the GravaStar universe.

What “Mecha-Aesthetic” Actually Means
In 2018, “mecha-aesthetic” didn’t exist. Most tech brands were fixated on minimalism, creating the most “invisible” products possible. Slim, featureless, and wireless were the innovations everyone was fighting over.
GravaStar chose something different. Mecha, metal, and technology merged into eye-catching futuristic designs that blended functional with funky.
The aesthetic is specific. Weathered industrial armor, alien body, exposed mechanism, a planetary naming system (Mars, Mercury, Sirius, Venus, Supernova) and silhouettes that look like they were salvaged from a battle.
Eight years in, the specs hold their weight against anyone in the category, and the look is GravaStar’s alone. We’re proud to say that we’ve created something nobody else has.
The Audio Era (2018 to 2022)
Our first chapter was speakers and earbuds. The GravaStar Mars Pro speaker refined the original concept Yong designed: a one-of-a-kind design with dynamic RGB lighting and a 20w dual speaker system.
Sirius earbuds brought the aesthetic to something you could carry in your pocket, the same great sound experience for on the go. The Supernova speaker took the design a step further, into something bigger and more cinematic.
Audio enthusiasts loved the “sound meets sci-fi” experience. Reviewers commented on the cyberpunk design first, but the crisp sound quality was a close second. And people kept coming back for more.
The system was designed to be expanded. Pair two Mars Pro speakers together or mix a Mars with a Supernova for immersive stereo sound. The goal was to turn your sound into a sci-fi collection that brings life to every session and creates an atmosphere every time you sit in front of your setup.
By 2022, GravaStar had proven that the distinctive aesthetic worked in audio. The next question was whether it could carry across categories.
Entering the Gaming World
In 2024, GravaStar launched the Mercury line. First came the M2 at 1000Hz, then the M1 Pro at 4000Hz. Next, the Mercury X Pro at a full 8000Hz polling rate, on par with the highest-end gaming mice on the market.
That same year, the GravaStar Mercury K1 Pro keyboard arrived, built in collaboration with Kailh, launched under the line “Merge with the Machine.”
“We have officially entered the gaming world,” Yong said at the seven-year mark. “Our gaming keyboards and mice grabbed a lot of attention, and what excites us even more is hearing how they feel, how they perform, and how they make you excited about a new product.”
With a unique, powerful range of keyboards, mice, speakers, and earphones, GravaStar became known as a serious contender in the peripherals world -and not just for the aesthetics. The more users started relying on GravaStar’s products, the more the specs started to shine in real competition.

Promises Kept
In 2025, we had big plans. Here’s what we’ve done to make them a reality.
A year ago, we were working on our next-generation Hall Effect gaming keyboards for competitive players who needed adjustable actuation and rapid trigger.
The current HE lineup spans 60% and 75% formats, as well as our UFO magnetic switches (which were just named on Wooting community’s list of recommended switches).
We wanted to expand the mechanical keyboard lineup with more materials and more designs. Our collection today includes the same GravaStar DNA of impressive specs and feel, in a wider range of designs and colors to suit every gamer.
We’re also building PC hardware accessories that carry that aesthetic across an entire setup. Currently, this includes the:
There’s plenty still to come, so watch this space.
Our company also expanded internationally, with Japan and Germany offices opening in the past year. More offices means faster delivery across the 30 countries we now ship to.
What’s Next for the GravaStar Universe?
We’re still working on some exciting additions, including gaming headphones, gaming controllers, and even a smartwatch. A GravaStar PC case, the community's most-requested product since 2024, is also in development.
“We are ready to take things to the next level,” Yong said a year ago. “The future is new products, new levels for existing products, and more community-informed accessories to round out your setup.”
Yong’s dream doesn’t stop there, though. One day, we imagine GravaStar games and exclusive metaverse content. But until then, we’ll keep creating innovative mecha-aesthetic gear that gamers are proud to show off on their desks.
If you’re already part of our journey, thank you. If you're new here, there's never been a better time to dive in. Tag us on Facebook or Instagram with your GravaStar products, join the conversation on Discord, and tell us what you want the next eight years of GravaStar to look like.
